By: Pat Riley

Charleston, W.Va., Nov. 14, 2013 - Make an early commitment to be fit and have some fun by registering for the 2014 Charleston Distance Run.

Registration is now open for the 42nd CDR, scheduled for 7:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 30, 2014. Participants can choose between the 15-mile run; three-person, 15-mile relay; 5K run; and 5K and 10K walks.

"We encourage people to register early for the Distance Run to show support for and to make a personal commitment to an outstanding community event," Race Director John Palmer said. \"Our 2013 edition was a great success with more than 1,500 participants. We want to continue to grow and to make improvements."

Palmer said registering early helps provide motivation for yearlong fitness goals and saves entrants money. Early entrants in the 15-mile race also will carry a little less ink on their chests on race day because they will receive a lower race number.

Registration fees for the 15-mile race are $40 by July 15, 2014; $50 by Aug. 5, 2014; and $60 by 9 p.m. Aug. 29, 2014.

In the 5K race and three-person, 15-mile relay, registration fees per person are $35 by Aug. 5, 2014, and $45 by 9 p.m. Aug. 29, 2014.

Meanwhile, registration fees for the 5K and 10K walks are $25 by Aug. 5, 2014, and $30 by Aug. 29, 2014.
