A NEW COAL RIVER EVENT ANNOUNCED - RUN FOR THE RIVER �TRIATHLON

The Coal River Group has announced that it will sponsor a new Coal River Event in 2014. The ‘RUN FOR THE RIVER’ TRIATHLON will take place on April 12, 2014.
“Meadowood Park in Tornado, WV will be the starting point for an 18 mile Triathlon race this spring” reports Bill Currey, Chairman of the Coal River Group. “The race will be the first time the Group has sponsored a combination Paddle, Bike and Run event”, he added.
The TSR Timing Group (TriStateRacer.com) will manage the event. Participants can go to www.tristateracer.com to obtain full details for the race and to register.
Currey says, “The Coal River Group is looking forward to hosting the event at our newly completed River Center located in the beautiful Meadowood Park in Tornado, WV. The park offers an excellent location for the Triathlon events to begin and end.”
The course will include a three mile cross country run in Meadowood Park with some gentle slopes; 8- mile bike from the park to the Alum Creek Lions Club Nature Conservancy at Lock 4; return to the park with a 7 mile paddle down Coal River with a short .25 mile run to the finish line at the CRG River Center.
Support will be provided by volunteers along with Lincoln and Kanawha County Sheriff’s Departments and the local Tornado volunteer fire department for the event. The Alum Creek Lions club will provide volunteers to assist the event in the Lincoln County areas.
“The new event expands the Group’s variety of river-based recreational activities”, says Currey. “We want to bring life back to the rivers and this event is one more way to encourage visitors to see and enjoy the many recreational assets we offer throughout the Coal River Watershed”.
Entry Fees will be: Individual: $45; Teams: $42 per team member. Awards will be included for all race classification groups.
The Coal River Group has space available at the River Center grounds for vendors and sponsors.
