CHARLESTON, W.Va. (Aug. 13) -- Experience the thrill and tradition of competing in the 15-mile race of the Charleston Distance Run with a bonus of not having to complete the entire distance.

The Distance Run offers a three-person, 15-mile relay that allows runners to register as a team. Each member of the team completes a portion of the race, with relay distances of three, five and seven miles. The three and seven-mile legs are on flat sections of the course, while the five-mile leg is through the hilly sections of the course, including the climb up U.S. 119.

The exchange zone for relay runners is at the South Side Bridge.

Runners who register as a three-person, 15-mile relay team must register no later than Aug. 27. Preferably, team registrations should be submitted together. Paper applications can be found and online registrations can be made at www.charlestondistancerun.com.

Anyone who has problems with online registration of teams should send an email to rltcdr@aol.com.

The registration fee for the three-person, 15-mile relay is $45 per person.

About 1,500 participants are expected in this year’s Charleston Distance Run, scheduled to begin 7:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 30, on Kanawha Boulevard at the West Virginia Capitol in Charleston. The race features a 15-mile run; three-person, 15-mile relay; 5K run; and 5K and 10K walks.
