(HUNTINGTON)—St. Mary’s Medical Center and Cabell Huntington Hospital will team up for Colors for a Cure, a 5K Walk/Run, Sunday, Oct. 9 beginning at Pullman Square in downtown Huntington. Festivities will begin at 2 p.m. at Pullman Square, with the walk/run beginning at 3 p.m.

The event will combine the hospitals’ two annual fall 5Ks—St. Mary’s PATH to the Cure (P2C) and Cabell Huntington Hospital’s Colors of Cancer.

“St. Mary’s Medical Center and Cabell Huntington Hospital are united in the fight against cancer,” said David Sheils, president of the St. Mary’s Medical Center Foundation. “This event will be a perfect opportunity to showcase our combined dedication to that fight and to our patients who are battling in it.”

The St. Mary’s Medical Center Foundation and Cabell Huntington Hospital Foundation, which organized the two 5Ks, decided to bring the events together to combine resources in order to help even more people in the Tri-State.

“We are always stronger working together than we are apart and Colors for a Cure will be a great example of that,” said Velma Workman, development outreach coordinator at Cabell Huntington Hospital. “We are truly looking forward to this event and the support it will give patients at both hospitals.”

Colors for a Cure (C4C) will combine the communityfest feel of PATH to the Cure with the colorful atmosphere of Colors of Cancer. While P2C focused on breast cancer, Colors for a Cure encourages participants to wear colors representing all types of cancer.

“We’re excited about the opportunities this new event will create to raise awareness and honor survivors,” Sheils said. “Having the event at Pullman Square also opens up even more options for what promises to be an extremely fun event.”

Proceeds from the event will benefit cancer patients in need at both St. Mary’s Medical Center and Cabell Huntington Hospital, as well as the Paul Ambrose Trail for Health (PATH).

“These events were very successful apart,” Workman said. “So the possibilities created by the two coming together, as St. Mary’s Medical Center and Cabell Huntington Hospital unite for this great cause, are truly endless. We are eager to get it started.”
