TSR Runner of the Week-Jeffrey Webb
By: Kayla Dodd

Congratulations to TriStateRacer’s Runner of the Week, Jeffrey Webb!! He has been on his running journey for about a year and a half now and he is loving it. His first race was in October 2015 and was for the 5k for Riverside High School’s band. His current 5k PR is 23:47, and he has worked very hard for this!
His current running goals consist of training to get his 5k time to a sub-20. “When I first started running 1½ years ago I ran a 5k in 38 minutes, so I am getting closer.” This is absolutely amazing to see such a huge difference in his times, it just goes to show that hard work, dedication and training make anything possible if you set your mind to it!
When asked what motivates him to run he said, “A few things. I coach middle school track and cross country, so my runners motivate me to some extent, but I also come from a family with a history of heart disease and I run for my health, as well.” Jeffrey had a ‘not so good’ running experience once but this did not stop him from continuing on. “I was attacked by two dogs while I was on a training run, once, which was both pretty weird and frightening. It kept me from running for a few weeks, and I had to undergo the rabies vaccination series as a precaution.”
He is currently working towards the Celtic Calling 5k in March. He will also have several more upcoming races throughout the 2017 year! Two ‘dream races’ that he would like to participate in one day are the JFK 50 in Virginia and the Marathon de Sables in the Sahara Desert.
His favorite running/motivational quote is, “If your Nerve deny you, go above your Nerve.” –Emily Dickinson
His best experience from running has been the weight loss aspect, the health benefits have been great for him! “It’s also great running outdoors through new locales and seeing neat things. I love running at Spring Hill Cemetery and being able to look out at all of Charleston as I run.”
His favorite brand of running shoes are New Balance. “I’m not incredibly picky. New Balance is what I started running with and what I’ve continued with, too.” His favorite piece of running gear is his Buff, which he usually wears on his neck or head. This helps to keep him warm/cool, depending on the temps. His furthest distance that he has ran so far has been around 9 to 10 miles, on various training runs.
When asked what advice he would give to a beginner runner he said, “Just try to keep running longer distances at a slower pace and your shorter distances will get faster.”
Running has had a huge impact on Jeffrey’s life and benefited him in many ways! “In the year and a half I’ve been running, I’ve lost over a hundred pounds. My blood pressure and my resting heart rate are all excellent. I get antsy if I go too many days without running now.” Congratulations to Jeffrey on all of his running accomplishments, he has done great things and made a complete lifestyle change. Team TSR will see you at the finish line!
