TSR Runner of the Week-Jill Meadows

By: Kayla Dodd

Congratulations to TSR Runner of the Week, Jill Meadows! She has been on her running journey for several years now and is absolutely loving it. She has pushed herself to new limits and met awesome people along the way.

Her current 5k PR is 24 minutes and she actually PR’d at her first 5k that she ever ran! Her running goals consist of continuing to keep on running, but to one day run a 50-miler!!!! Jill loves hitting the trails and pushing herself to the next level. She also loves participating in trail races, she said “those seem to be more forgiving on the body!”

When asked what motivates her to run she said, “Getting stress and craziness out is definitely a HUGE reason why I run! BUT I also enjoy the camaraderie and getting in touch with nature!” The coolest thing that she has ever seen on a run (well when volunteering at a run) was at the Frozen Sasquatch run this year. “I saw peoples eyelashes, eyebrows and beards all frozen and with snow in them. It was only 13 degrees out but all of the participants were awesome!”

Jill is currently training for several upcoming races, but her primary focuses are her upcoming Ironman race and the 50k trail races that she is signed up for. Like I said, she loves the trails and distance races. Her dream race would be the WV Trilogy. This takes place over 3 days – 50k on Day 1, 50 miler on Day 2 and a half marathon on Day 3!!! GO BIG OR GO HOME!!!!

Her favorite running motivational/inspirational quote is from Martin Luther King Jr., “If you can’t fly then run, and if you can’t run then walk, if you can’t walk then crawl, but whatever you do you have to keep moving forward.” Her favorite brands of running shoes are Hoka and Altra and her “must have item” for a run is her chap stick and HoneyStinger energy chews.

Running has had a huge impact on Jill’s life and benefited her in many ways. “It makes me a better person. I feel better. I am less stressed. I am nicer, and it is a great way to stay healthy!” When asked what advice she would give to a beginner runner she said, “Just like anything new, the hardest part is starting. Once you get started, pace yourself and listen to your body.” Running has opened up new doors for Jill and through all of the runs and races she has done, she has found a true love and passion for running. She discovered how much she loves hitting the trails and that she actually prefers distance over speed. Running also pushed her to a whole new level of competing in triathlons! Congratulations to Jill on all of her runner accomplishments, TSR will see you at the finish line!
