By: Kayla Dodd

Congratulations to TSR Runner of the Week Dale Callicoat! He has been on his running journey since the spring of 2012, so 5 years now! His first race was the New Beginning 5K on October 3, 2012 in Barboursville Park. His current 5k PR is 26:53, his Half Marathon PR is 2:28, and his Marathon PR is 5:50.

His current running goals are to continue to push himself and to keep on having fun with running and participating in races. When asked what motivates him to run he said, “I enjoy the time I spend running, it lets me relax.” Dale also uses running for health benefits and weight loss goals.

When asked what the coolest and/or weirdest thing that he has ever seen on a run he said, “Running the Columbus Marathon and seeing all the crowd support along the entire route. That was very cool!!”

Dale keeps a full race calendar and is always pushing himself to new limits. Here are a few of his upcoming races he is working towards: Diabolical Boob 5K, First Responders 5K, Happy Feet 5K, Vesuvius Challenge 4 miler, Bun Run 10K, Little Miami half marathon, Columbus half marathon and the Marshall half marathon. His dream race is the Boston Marathon!

He has 2 favorite running/motivational quotes: “My race my pace!” & “Your body can do anything, but it is your brain you have to convince.” His favorite brand of running shoes are Brooks and they are also his favorite piece of running gear! His farthest distance he has ran has been 26.80 miles.

Dale said that his best experience from running has been all of the great friends he has made over the years. When asked what advice he would give to a beginner runner he said, “Have fun, smile, make it fun and make plenty of friends.”

When Dale began his running journey he weighed 335 pounds. He said, “I started and couldn’t run over 200 yards without having to walk. Over the next few months I could run further and further. Over the next year or so I lost over 100 pounds. I feel so much better as a person.” Running has had a huge impact on Dale’s life and made him much healthier! Congrats to him on all of his running accomplishments. Team TSR will see you at the finish line!
