TSR Runner of the Week-Jim Ford

By: Kayla Dodd

Congratulations to TSR Runner of the Week James (Jim) Ford! He has been on his running journey for 5 years now and loves it. His first race was the Run for the Hills 5k in Teays Valley on August 2, 2014.

Jim has several PR’s since he runs a lot of races of various distances! Check out some of his awesome times: 5k (Pokémon Go 5k (2016) 23:37), 10k (Wine Cellar 10k (2017) 48:35), 15k Poca River (2017) 1:17:35), Half Marathon (Evansville, IN (2016) 1:49:25), 25k Trail (Haulin in the Holler (2017) 3:13:01) and the Marathon (Marshall Marathon (2017) 4:20:28).

His current running goal consists of continuing his training to qualify for and run the Boston Marathon! Jim’s motivation to run comes from the health benefits he receives and the awesome people in the running community. His current race calendar consists of the upcoming Winter Series races and the Myrtle Beach Marathon in March of 2018. His dream race is the Boston Marathon!

Jim’s best experience from running is the friendships that he has been able to make along the way. He said that it has made all the pain and joy worth it! His favorite running/motivational quote is “Embrace the Suck”.

His favorite brand of running shoes are Brooks, and his favorite piece of running gear in the summer is his hat and during the winter time it is his buff. His furthest distance that he has run so far is 26.2 miles. When asked what advice he would give to a beginner runner he said, “Start slow, wear the proper shoes, listen to your body and trust your training”.

Running has had a huge impact on Jim’s life and benefitted him in many ways! He said, “Running has made me a stronger and healthier person. I’ve learned my body and my mind, I’ve learned how to listen to what they are telling me and how to adjust.” Congrats to Jim on all of his running accomplishments. Team TSR will see you at the finish line!
